PEG-150 distearate is a polyethylene glycol (PEG) ester of stearic acid that's used as a thickener, emulsifier, and solubilizer in cosmetics and personal care products. It's a white to off-white waxy flake that melts at around 52–57°C and has an average molecular weight of 7,170 g/mol. PEG-150 distearate is produced by esterifying stearic acid, which can come from palm kernel oil or other vegetable oils.

PEG-150 distearate, also known as Polyethylene Glycol Diester of Stearic Acid, is an ingredient used in many cosmetics and personal care products. It's used as a thickener and emulsifier, and can also act as a solubilizer for water-insoluble ingredients: 

Hair products

In conditioners, it forms a film on hair to reduce static. It's also used in shampoos, shower gels, and baby shampoos. 

Skin care

It's used as an emulsifier in creams and lotions, and in face washes and hand washes. 

Other products

It's also used in bath products, shaving creams, and paints and dyes. When added to paints and dyes, it thickens their consistency and emulsifies them. 

PEG-150 distearate is produced by esterifying stearic acid, which can be derived from palm kernel oil or other vegetable oils. It's considered safe to use in products at concentrations of up to 5%. When incorporating it into formulas, it should be heated to 60°C (140°F).
